Responsible use

How to use Firm Grow data lawfully. This is guidance, not legal advice.

You are responsible for how you contact the businesses you find through Firm Grow. Whether and how you may contact a business depends on the type of business, the channel and the data involved.

Postal marketing

Letters addressed to a company are generally the lowest-friction route, but you must still honour any request not to be contacted, and any personal data (such as a named director) must be handled in line with data protection law.

Electronic marketing (email, SMS, calls)

The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) treat limited companies, LLPs and some partnerships ("corporate subscribers") differently from sole traders and most other partnerships ("individual subscribers"). Rules, and the consent you need, differ between them and between channels. Check the position before you send anything electronically. Telephone numbers should be screened against the TPS and CTPS.

Personal data

Where a record includes information about an identifiable person, UK GDPR applies. You need a lawful basis, must tell people how you got their details, and must respect objections and opt-outs promptly.

Suppression and opt-outs

Keep your own suppression list, apply it before every campaign and add anyone who opts out. Firm Grow supports suppression through your account.

Lead protection

Signals you buy are locked to you for 60 days from purchase so other Firm Grow customers cannot buy the same company. It does not stop other firms finding the same company elsewhere.

For authoritative guidance see the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) guide to direct marketing. Firm Grow does not provide legal advice on direct marketing.
